Description

When the Deutsche Reichsbahn was founded in 1920, mostly outdated locomotives were running on the branch lines. Early 1920 drafts were made for a triple-coupled, superheated steam tank locomotive with one running axle at the front and one at the rear. With a maximum speed of 90 km per hour this locomotive should also be suitable for light trains on main lines. The Class 64 was built between 1928 and 1940. Many German manufacturers contributed to the series. Due to its compact construction, the Class 64 was called “Bubikopf” (after a popular women’s hairstyle of the time).

In 1889 a rail line was built to the spa of Langenschwalbach. The line had to climb the main ridge of the Taunus mountain and passes through a gap in the main range known as the Eiserne Hand. Some sections or the rail line had a grade of 1 in 30 and curves with a minimum radius of 200 meters. The Prussian State Railroad had a new type of passenger car built especially for the many curves on this track. Although commuter cars at that time had two or three rigid axles, the Langenschwalbach cars were equipped with 2-axle bogies. This design became known as the Langenschwalbacher car.

The set contains the locomotive DRG Class 64, PwPost4i Pr14 baggage car, C4i Pr15 passenger car and two custom printed minifigs (driver and a stoker). To motorize the locomotive you need a L-motor and battery box from LEGO®. The battery box must be placed in the PwPost4i Pr14 baggage car. If you chose the option “No Electric” you will get parts to replace the motor. All graphic elements are printed on the LEGO® parts. The models are built on a 1:45 scale and need a larger radius of curve (R104) for a smooth ride. Check out the tracks form BrickTracks on our website.
